One of the bags I’ve been trying out this winter is a vintage-style leather crossbody purse from High on Leather. I’m not a girl who buys myself a lot of purses or bags, so I really love something that will last me years. I was excited to try this crossbody bag because the brand claims they are an eco-friendly leather company, with their bags being handmade in India and being tanned with an eco-friendly vegetable tanning process. They also are pretty transparent about how their leather is sourced and priced, and I like that they are stepping in the right direction when it comes to sustainably producing leather!
The bag I got was a version of their handmade leather crossbody bag! They come in various sizes on the website. On first looks, the actual leather is pretty thick. Leather from different animals can have different thickness and longevity. This particular bag comes from goat leather. I can definitely tell it will last many years with the right care. The second thing that stood out to me (good or bad, I dunno?) is that this is definitely a vintage-style bag. The leather has marks and scuffs and imperfections. Definitely just something to note!
Next, the bag lining is thick canvas. I’m not a huge fan of the color, but the material will last for a long time. All of the hardware is pretty robust (coming from a zipper destroyer aficionado). There are many zippered pockets including one in the center and another on an inside wall. The actual inside is quite spacious. I’m guessing it would fit an iPad or similar with no problem. You can see in the background that the strap of the bag is just a singular strip of leather. I would personally prefer something a bit more padded just for comfort. The strap is adjustable, and I was able to get it short enough for someone smaller like me.
I can’t wait to see more of what High on Leather creates in the future. I feel like the quality of leather and handmade care is there, but I think the style of the bag was a little too on the vintage side for me. They’ve started to sell totes and Italian leather bags that are much more modern that I am going to check out!
