In the PNW, we’re lucky that summer usually goes on through September! But then it cools down fast, and it’s time to bring out the fall staples. I partnered with rue21 to pick up affordable but trendy basics that transition perfectly from summer to fall.
I’ve been stocking up on some basic bodysuits. I like a good bodysuit because it looks sleeker than tucking in a shirt and can be styled with a pair of jeans or a skirt. I own the white and blue version of the square neck bodysuit above because it was just too good to not get both! They’re double lined and not see-through at all—I’m wearing an XS. Oh, and just throwing out there that this lace kimono duster is absolutely amazing, too.
My other two favorite bodysuits (shown below) come in so many different colors! The first is a cute racerback bodysuit with a deep plunge neckline. I got an S in grey and aqua, but I would probably size down if I had to do it again! The other is a ribbed velvet bodysuit that comes in red, white, and black. It’s thick enough to go braless, which is a win for me! I think the thick fabric makes it a great choice for when it gets chillier.
I’m also bringing stripes back this fall. Two of my new favorite tops are black and white and striped! I love pieces that are adjustable, and rue21 has the cutest off-the-shoulder striped top that can go from a normal shirt to a crop top with the tie of a bow. The long-sleeve zebra shirt might not be your traditional striped shirt, but it’s made of a thick, soft fabric that I’m going to be living in once it cools down. Stripes just add a little bit of fun to a basic outfit with literally no effort.
But you can’t forget the rue21 jeans! I love my rue21 jeans—they fit super comfy and have lots of different distressed styles. I picked up this distressed pair of blue jeans and they’re so flattering! They’re selling out super quick, too. Wouldn’t they look cute with a pair of knee-high boots? My black jeans are the perfect length for petite girls. They run small so size up (I’m wearing a 4, but I usually wear a 2).
Trendy basics are so great for the fall season because you can dress them up with a felt hat, tall boots, or a jacket. Looking for more fall fashion ideas? Check out the rue21 blog for more style inspo.
