Iconic Seattle artist’s last works touch on themes of remorse

This article detailed the last works of Seattle ceramic artist Akio Takamori. He named the body of work “Apology/Remorse.” Since I never had the chance to meet Takamori, I put together his story and the story of his last collection by talking to those who knew and worked with him throughout his lifetime. These stories shaped the article. The piece was published on the front page of Northwest Asian Weekly, Volume 36 Number 10.

Akio Takamori Yellow Man

“The figure that emerged after the last firing was always a surprise, each newborn person stepping out of the kiln telling a uniquely raw, human story that nobody had heard before, including Akio himself.”
